Bodrum is full of things to see which include one of Turkey’s best preserved medieval
buildings, the Castle of St Peter. The ruins at Ephesus make a great day trip and here
you will find a great historical site where the Temple of Artemis once stood. Overlooking
the town of Bodrum is a Roman amphitheatre which was built during the reign of King Mausolus
and was used to entertain the town’s citizens. The amphitheatre has been lovingly restored
and hosts the town’s annual festival each September.
The Turkish cuisine is richly diverse and is the result of centuries of trade between the
East and the West. Influenced by flavours and dishes from across the Mediterranean the food
in Bodrum offers some delicious flavours. Popular dishes normally include fish or meat such
as beef, lamb and chicken. Lahmacun is a pancake type pizza with a thin layer of pastry
containing mince meat and fresh herbs and spices.
There are plenty of things to do while you stay in the beautiful town of Bodrum. Take a boat
trip to the Greek Islands of Kos or Rhodes which make the perfect destination for a day trip.
Go horse riding along the beaches or try river rafting down the Dalaman River. During the
spring months walking and hiking are a popular way of enjoying the region while jeep safaris
offer the same scenery without the strenuous exercise.
