Larnaca offers its visitors much in the way of sightseeing and cultural enlightenment. The
ruins of the ancient city known as ‘Kition’, in the times of the Old Testament, can still
be seen today. Many of the intriguing archaeological finds can be seen in Larnaca’s history
museums. As well as an ancient fort, Larnaca is also home to some interesting churches, temples
and mosques. Due to its position, the city is a great base for exploring the rest of Cyprus,
especially the beach resorts of the southeast coast.
If you tire of wandering the historic sights, you can always laze around on the sun drenched beach.
Take refuge in one of the many restaurants, cafes and bars to be found on the promenade and harbour
areas. Traditional Greek tavernas are extremely popular around Larnaca and offer up a selection of
tantalizing cuisine such as fresh seafood, Greek salads and selections of tasty meze. You will also
find a versatile selection of international cuisine, as well as bustling bars offering a range of
evening entertainment.
Sizzling temperatures peak 36 degrees Celsius in July and August which are the hottest months of
the year. The lovely Mediterranean climate offers a summer season from April to October with
cloudless skies and a gentle breeze rolling in from the sea. Even in winter, Cyprus offers sunshine
and warmth so it really is a year round destination for those who want to avoid the sultry summer heat.
