If you have come to Cairo to shop, then look no further than Khan al-Khalili bazaar. As
an example of colourful and exotic Egyptian souks, this is one of the very best. Situated
in the picturesque Islamic quarters, Khan al-Khalili is one of the largest markets worldwide.
The labyrinthine streets are packed with traders, and you can bargain for all kinds of goods
such as perfumes, spices, clothes, crafts and more. A visit to Cairo is truly an eye opening
experience.
Except for the Mediterranean coast the country experiences
a desert climate, which is hot and dry most of the year,
especially in the summer months (June to August). Winter is
from December to February with average temperatures of 68°F
to 79°F (20°C to 26°C).
People flooding to Cairo are more than likely on a cultural journey of enlightenment that
begins at the awesome site of the Pyramids of Giza. They are the world’s oldest tourist
attraction having been visited by the Greeks as early as 400 BC. The Great Pyramid of Khufu
is the only remaining ancient wonder of the world. Also on the site is the famous statue of
the Sphinx which is actually thought to be older than the pyramids themselves. The Egyptian
Museum of Antiquities is another of Cairo’s most popular attractions.
