Here in the idyllic surroundings of Altinkum’s wonderful scenery, there is no shortage
of things to do. Jeep safaris run regularly through the orange and olive groves of the
beautiful hillsides, where you can visit authentic Turkish villages and swim in the
peaceful, secluded bays. Or you may prefer a horse safari to enjoy the stunning views
from atop of Altinkum’s craggy cliffs.
Pressed against the Aegean Sea, Altinkum enjoys the benefits of a wonderful Mediterranean
climate; long hot summers and mild balmy winters. During the summer months of May-September,
holiday makers in Altinkum can enjoy 12 hours of sunshine a day with average temperatures in
the high 20s and often reaching above 30 degrees. During the winter months of October-April,
temperatures are slightly cooler, around 10 degrees, and rain can be much more frequent.
Altinkum has two major sites of historical interest. The Temple of Apollo at Didyama is a vast
site of towering columns and sweeping stone steps overlaid with ornate sculptures and carvings.
It is amongst these ancient ruins that you will find the famous statue of the snake haired Medusa.
Amongst the Roman ruins at Ephesus stand the remains of the mighty Temple of Artemis, one of the
Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. This historic site of sacred ruins is breath taking in its
ancient majesty.
