The coastline stretches 100 miles from Cape St. Vincent to Vila Real de Santo Antonio on the border
with Spain. Much of it today is built up with high-rise hotels and holiday apartment blocks,
particularly the area to the west of Faro. A special feature of the Algarve is the myriad of almond
trees that are found throughout the region.
One of the finest beach resorts in the Algarve has to be Portimao with its street entertainers ands
various styles of music to get you in the mood. Each resort though, has one thing in common, the
excellent choice of restaurants, bars and cafes. They all entice you to taste the freshly caught
seafood, the delectable age old recipes or the mouth watering local wine and beer.
Summers are hot and dry throughout Portugal, particularly in the Algarve, which experiences very little
rain. However, refreshing sea breezes make for pleasant conditions. Winters are cold and wet,
particularly in the northern and west coast regions.
